Even though a condition does not necessarily mean there is any kind of concern, a change in a condition with time might suggest that there could be a developing problem (the water might become harder or a pipe breaks, resulting in a big drop in water pressure and vulnerability to outside contamination). For example, the water may be Corrosive which could lead to the leaching of trace metals like Copper, Lead, nickel, and Zinc.
Conditions that might lead to elevated lead levels in the water include: the type of piping, type of solder, pH, Alkalinity, Total Hardness, presence or lack of phosphate inhibitors, Chloride, Sulfate, Sodium, water temperature, outgassing of carbon dioxide and other gases, pipe flow velocity, sediment, and, in some cases, the level of Bacterial contamination.
